AIR, OCEAN AND VEHICLE FREIGHT

Freight Shipping From Canada to France

france-flag

Move commercial freight and approved larger personal cargo from locations across Canada to destinations throughout France. BriCargo coordinates air freight, LCL and 20-foot or 40-foot FCL, with vehicle and household-goods pathways available after shipment review. Pickup and delivery coverage remain subject to the cargo, address access and current carrier service; documentation and customs support are defined in the quote.

*Subject to cargo, address access and current carrier coverage. Route availability, carrier rules and customs requirements can change.

REQUEST A CANADA-TO-FRANCE FREIGHT QUOTE

Provide the Canadian origin, French destination, cargo description, packed dimensions, weight and cargo-ready date. BriCargo will review the shipment and recommend an air, LCL, FCL or vehicle-shipping option.

Designed for freight and larger shipments

BriCargo reviews commercial cargo, pallets, machinery, household shipments, dedicated containers and eligible vehicles, with air, LCL, FCL and vehicle-shipping options assessed based on the shipment.

Should You Use Air, LCL, FCL or Vehicle Shipping?

The appropriate method depends on urgency, total packed size, handling sensitivity, cargo type, origin, destination and the services required at each end. These are decision guides rather than fixed thresholds.

Time-Sensitive Freight

Air Freight to France

Air freight is usually considered when timing is critical or the shipment is smaller, higher-value or operationally urgent. Cargo may move through Paris Charles de Gaulle or another suitable French cargo airport.

Best fit
Urgent commercial cargo, replacement parts and approved higher-value freight
Quote inputs
Actual weight, complete packed dimensions, commodity and ready date
Limitation
Chargeable weight and airline acceptance can control price and route
Explore BriCargo air freight service
Shared Container

LCL Ocean Freight

LCL is useful when pallets, crates, inventory or household goods do not require a dedicated container. Consolidation and deconsolidation add handling stages that affect total cost and time.

Best fit
Smaller freight volumes that are too large for ordinary parcel services
Quote inputs
Packed cubic volume, weight, packaging and both postcodes
Limitation
Handling and consolidation schedules remain shipment-specific
Review LCL consolidation and cost
Dedicated Container

20-ft and 40-ft FCL

FCL is considered when a larger load benefits from dedicated container space and one loading plan. Equipment selection depends on volume, weight distribution, loading method and site access.

Best fit
Commercial inventory, machinery, relocations and larger freight loads
Quote inputs
Packed volume, piece weights, loading method and access conditions
Limitation
Heavy, oversized or out-of-gauge cargo requires separate review
Explore BriCargo ocean freight options
Rolling or Containerized

Vehicle Shipping

Eligible vehicles may move in a container or on an available RoRo service. Carrier, terminal, operability, fuel, battery and personal-effects rules must be checked for the booked movement.

Best fit
Cars, SUVs, motorcycles and other eligible vehicles
Quote inputs
Year, make, model, VIN, dimensions, value, condition and scope
Limitation
Shipping does not establish French import or road-registration eligibility

Household Goods and Personal Effects

Approved household goods can move by air, LCL or FCL. A detailed inventory, proper packing and prior disclosure of batteries, food, alcohol, plants, chemicals and other regulated items are required. For a broader comparison, read Air Freight vs Ocean Freight .

How Much Does Shipping From Canada to France Cost?

These market-informed ranges are useful for early planning, but they are not fixed BriCargo rates or guaranteed quotes. The final price depends on the exact cargo, origin, destination, route, carrier capacity, equipment and services included.

Canadian pickup and loading gateway French arrival and delivery postcode Packed dimensions and weight Chargeable weight for air freight Cubic volume and handling for LCL 20-ft or 40-ft FCL equipment Commodity and declared value Loading, lashing and site access Carrier capacity and ready date Customs and destination handling Insurance requirements Regulated or special handling
Shipment Method and Planning Basis Indicative Planning Range
General air freight from a major Canadian airport, priced by chargeable weight CAD $6–$15+ per chargeable kg
LCL freight, priced against packed cubic volume, weight, consolidation handling and both postcodes Quote-specific
20-foot FCL main carriage from a suitable Canadian gateway to a French ocean gateway CAD $1,300–$6,700+
40-foot FCL main carriage from a suitable Canadian gateway to a French ocean gateway CAD $1,500–$7,000+
Standard operable passenger vehicle using an available RoRo route between suitable gateways CAD $800–$2,000+

Indicative Canada-to-France planning ranges in Canadian dollars, reviewed 19 August 2026. They are non-binding market planning figures, not guaranteed BriCargo prices.

How to Read the Ranges

The ocean and RoRo figures are broad main-carriage planning ranges between suitable gateways. They are not presented as complete door-to-door totals. Air is priced per chargeable kilogram, which uses the greater of actual and applicable volumetric weight.

Do Not Assume These Are Included

  • Pickup or final delivery
  • Origin or destination handling
  • Customs brokerage, duties or taxes
  • Cargo insurance
  • Storage, demurrage or detention
  • Inspections or examination fees
  • Dangerous-goods or special handling
  • Fuel, peak-season or capacity surcharges

Written Quote Controls

A marketplace or public carrier figure may represent only one part of the shipment. The written BriCargo quotation should state the cargo and route basis, validity period, currency, included services and charges that remain payable by the shipper, importer or consignee.

Get a Price Based on Your Cargo

Send both postcodes, a clear commodity description, piece count, complete packed dimensions, total weight or volume, cargo value, ready date and required services. BriCargo will price the shipment against current route and capacity conditions.

How Long Does Shipping From Canada to France Take?

A responsible transit estimate needs a defined origin, destination, mode, ready date and transport scope. BriCargo provides a current planning estimate after reviewing those details rather than applying one blanket number to every Canada-to-France shipment.

Air Freight Planning

Define the Airport and Door Scope

Air freight generally reduces the main-carriage portion for urgent cargo. The complete process can still include pickup, export preparation, security screening, airline cut-off, French customs review and final delivery.

The quote should say whether its estimate covers airport-to-airport movement or the expected door-to-door process.

Ocean and Vehicle Planning

Confirm the Booked Sailing

LCL timing includes consolidation and deconsolidation. FCL and RoRo timing depends on the accepted cargo or vehicle, available equipment, booked sailing, transshipment if any, terminal release and inland delivery.

A port-to-port estimate should not be treated as the full door-to-door timeline.

What Can Change the Schedule?

Pickup distance
Cargo-ready date
Consolidation timing
Carrier cut-offs
Direct or connecting route
Transshipment
Weather or congestion
Customs review
Inspection
Document corrections
Terminal release
Final-delivery distance

The planning estimate in a quote is an estimate rather than a guaranteed arrival date. Ask BriCargo to identify the stages included in the quoted window.

How Canada-to-France Freight Is Routed

A useful route plan starts with the pickup and final-delivery postcodes, cargo and mode—not a fixed list of ports. The pickup city is not automatically the airport or ocean port of loading, and the written quote should identify every planned handoff.

Canadian Origin and Loading

Toronto Origin

Toronto is a confirmed origin and pickup area. Cargo may move inland to the airport, consolidation facility or ocean gateway selected for the booking.

Vancouver Origin

Vancouver is a confirmed origin and gateway in scope. The selected ocean or air plan depends on cargo, capacity, route and final French destination.

Other Canadian Locations

Pickup can be coordinated across Canada, subject to cargo, address access and carrier coverage. The quote identifies pickup scope and any inland transfer.

Canadian Pickup Loading Gateway Main Carriage French Customs Final Delivery

French Arrival and Delivery

Le Havre

Le Havre can be relevant for Paris, northern France and western distribution routes. The actual carrier route and destination handling remain booking-specific.

Marseille-Fos

Marseille-Fos can be relevant for southern destinations and Mediterranean-linked cargo. This does not promise a direct Canada sailing.

Paris Charles de Gaulle

CDG or another suitable French cargo airport may be used according to capacity, cargo acceptance and the final-delivery plan.

These are planning examples, not guaranteed routes. A different suitable gateway may be proposed when the carrier, schedule, cargo and final destination make it operationally appropriate. The quote should state whether the service is port-to-port, airport-to-airport, door-to-port, port-to-door or door-to-door.

Household Goods and Transfer-of-Residence Shipments

BriCargo handles approved household goods and personal effects moving from Canada to France by air, LCL or FCL. The suitable method depends on the inventory, packed volume, timing, residence access and whether the move uses shared or dedicated container space.

Shipping Preparation

Prepare a detailed packing inventory and identify the contents, estimated values, package count and packing method. Disclose batteries, food, alcohol, plants, chemicals, unfinished wood and other potentially regulated items before packing.

The quote should define pickup access, packing responsibilities, export reporting support, customs coordination, destination handling, delivery access and insurance scope.

French Relief Conditions

A transfer of main residence may qualify for duty-and-tax relief only when the official conditions are met. Published conditions include:

  • Living outside the EU for at least 12 months
  • Private use of the goods for at least six months
  • Import within 12 months after the move
  • No sale, lease, loan or pledge for 12 months after import
  • Applicable origin customs or taxes already paid
  • A detailed, estimated, dated and signed inventory in two copies

Review official French transfer-of-residence guidance .

Alcohol, tobacco, commercial stock and several vehicle or professional-equipment categories are excluded or treated separately. Relief eligibility does not override commodity restrictions or carrier acceptance. Confirm the current conditions and supporting documents before booking.

Shipping a Vehicle From Canada to France

BriCargo can arrange eligible vehicle shipping by container or RoRo, with pickup and final delivery available as part of the quoted scope. Provide the make, model, year, VIN, dimensions, value, ownership status and running condition so the route and acceptance requirements can be reviewed.

Containerized Vehicle Shipping

A container may be selected when the vehicle requires a dedicated loading and lashing plan or the route makes container service more practical.

  • Loading and securement must follow the accepted plan.
  • Fuel systems, batteries and especially electric or hybrid vehicles are carrier- and mode-specific acceptance issues.
  • Separately packed and declared cargo may share the container only after written shipment-specific approval.

RoRo Vehicle Shipping

RoRo units normally must be safely movable or rollable and meet current terminal and carrier conditions. Non-operable units require advance approval and special handling.

  • RoRo vehicles must be tendered empty under BriCargo’s planning rule.
  • The booked carrier and terminal determine final acceptance.
  • Carrier instructions must be checked again before vehicle delivery.

French Customs and Certificate 846A

French customs clearance and certificate 846A where applicable are separate from road registration, conformity and technical requirements. Certificate 846A evidences customs clearance, payment or relief for registration purposes; it is not itself registration, conformity approval or authorization for road use.

Review official French Customs vehicle-import guidance .

Details Required for Review

  • Year, make, model and VIN
  • Exact dimensions and weight
  • Operable or non-operable condition
  • Fuel type and battery system
  • Ownership, lien and value records
  • Canadian pickup and French delivery postcodes
  • Container or RoRo preference, if known

Plan for an Empty Vehicle

Do not place personal effects inside a RoRo vehicle. For container service, assume the vehicle must also be empty unless BriCargo gives written approval after confirming the selected carrier, separate packing location, loading and lashing plan, dangerous-goods status, French inventory requirements and insurance scope. Shipping the vehicle to France does not by itself make it road-legal.

Restricted, Regulated and Dangerous Goods

Cargo acceptance is shipment-specific. Tell BriCargo the exact commodity, composition, quantity, packaging and intended use before preparing the shipment. Declaration and review do not guarantee acceptance.

Prior Review

Regulated or Dangerous Goods

  • Batteries, perfumes and chemicals
  • Alcohol, food and plants
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Temperature-controlled cargo
  • Oversized or unusually heavy pieces

Classification, permits or licences, specialized packaging and carrier approval may be required.

Specialist Scope

Controlled Goods and Live Animals

Lawful controlled medicines or substances are not ordinary freight and may be considered only after exporter/importer authority, licences or permits, French import eligibility, packaging and carrier acceptance are confirmed.

Live animals are not accepted by default. Veterinary, EU-entry, carrier, handler and route requirements need prior written confirmation, and some requests will be declined.

Not Accepted

Illegal or Prohibited Goods

Illegal drugs, narcotics, contraband and other prohibited goods are not accepted. A request for review must never be interpreted as permission to tender prohibited cargo.

The selected airline, ocean carrier, port, airport, customs authority and handling partners may each impose separate conditions. Do not pack regulated cargo until BriCargo confirms the review path in writing.

Customs, CETA, EORI and Shipping Documents

Canada-to-France freight involves Canadian export requirements, carrier documents and French or European Union import procedures. BriCargo can coordinate documents, export filing support, broker communication and delivery when requested, but the exporter and importer retain their legal responsibilities and customs authorities control admissibility, assessment, inspection and release.

Common Shipment Documents

A commercial shipment commonly uses a commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading or air waybill. Descriptions, quantities, weights, values, shipper and consignee details should agree. Additional permits, certificates, dangerous-goods documents or origin evidence may be required. Use BriCargo’s international shipping document checklist .

Canadian Export Reporting

For France, non-restricted commercial goods valued at CAN$2,000 or more generally require a CBSA export declaration, subject to listed exceptions. Restricted or controlled goods may require reporting and authorization regardless of value. Filing deadlines vary by mode. Do not assume emigrant effects or permanently exported vehicles are automatically exempt. Review the CBSA Exporters’ Guide and no-declaration-required exceptions.

EORI and Importer Setup

An economic operator carrying out EU customs transactions needs a valid EORI before the transaction. An ordinary individual who is not conducting business activity connected with customs legislation generally does not need one and may use the French occasional-importer process. Confirm whose EORI or other identifier appears on the declaration. Review French Customs EORI guidance.

CETA Origin Is Conditional

Goods are not automatically duty-free because they depart from Canada. CETA preference depends on product classification and qualifying origin, and the prescribed origin declaration must be supported by records. CETA changes customs-duty treatment only; it does not remove import VAT, excise, brokerage, handling, inspections, compliance rules, permits or delivery charges. Read BriCargo’s Canada-to-EU customs guide , then verify the official CETA origin protocol and EU ROSA origin tool.

French Import VAT and Duties

French Customs determines admissibility and customs treatment. Duties and taxes depend on classification, customs value, origin and importer status. Since 1 January 2022, import-VAT self-assessment has been mandatory and automatic for businesses and certain public bodies identified for VAT in France. Private or non-VAT cases differ. The importer and its customs and tax advisers must confirm the treatment. See official French import-VAT guidance.

Responsibility Boundary

BriCargo can coordinate filing through an authorized provider and the EORI/VAT information requested by the importer, customs representative or tax adviser. The exporter remains responsible for true, accurate, complete and timely export information. The importer and its advisers determine registration, classification, valuation, preference and tax treatment.

Documents Commonly Required

General Freight

  • Commercial invoice
  • Packing list
  • Bill of lading or air waybill
  • Export declaration where required
  • Importer and EORI information
  • Origin declaration where applicable
  • Shipment-specific permits or certificates

Household Goods or Vehicles

  • Detailed inventory and values
  • Residence evidence where relief is claimed
  • Ownership or title records
  • Vehicle identification and value records
  • Canadian export reporting
  • French importer and customs information
  • Condition, operability and battery details

Requirements change by commodity and importer. Confirm the current checklist before cargo is tendered.

Customs support is part of the service scope only when the written quotation says so. Customs release, duty or tax outcomes, inspections and permits cannot be guaranteed.

Why Ship to France With BriCargo?

Shipping to France requires the cargo, mode, carrier, documents and destination arrangements to work together. BriCargo can coordinate the following within the written quote.

Air, LCL, FCL and Vehicles

The method is selected around the shipment’s urgency, size, handling needs and current route availability.

Pickup Across Canada

Cargo and eligible vehicles can be collected and routed to the selected Canadian gateway, subject to address access and carrier coverage.

Delivery Across France

After customs release, final transport can be coordinated from the arrival gateway to the approved destination.

Customs Communication

BriCargo can coordinate export filing support, broker communication and importer information without claiming authority over customs decisions.

Insurance on Request

Cargo insurance can be arranged when requested and accepted. Coverage exists only under the issued policy or certificate; carrier liability is not cargo insurance.

Competitive Route Review

Current carrier, equipment, gateway and service options are reviewed for the actual shipment. “Competitive” does not mean a guaranteed lowest price.

Responsibility boundary: Customers may retain export, importer, customs or delivery tasks they already manage, or ask BriCargo to coordinate them. The exporter and importer remain responsible for accurate information and legal obligations that cannot be transferred. Carriers and authorities determine acceptance, clearance and release.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can BriCargo arrange pickup across Canada and delivery in France?

Yes. Pickup and final delivery can be coordinated across Canada and France, subject to the exact cargo, address access and current carrier coverage. The written quote should identify the pickup, gateway, customs and delivery scope.

Can BriCargo handle export declarations and French customs clearance?

BriCargo can coordinate export filing support, customs-broker communication, the EORI/VAT information requested by the importer or its advisers, and final delivery when requested. Customers may also keep responsibilities they already manage.

The exporter and importer remain responsible for accurate information and their legal obligations. Customs authorities determine admissibility, duties, taxes, inspections and release.

Can I put personal effects inside a vehicle?

Do not put personal effects inside a RoRo vehicle. For containerized vehicle shipping, assume the vehicle must also be empty unless BriCargo gives written shipment-specific approval. Any approved effects must be separately packed and declared in the location and manner accepted by the carrier, customs process and insurance terms.

Are dangerous, regulated or specialist goods accepted?

Review is not acceptance. Illegal drugs, narcotics, contraband and other prohibited goods are not accepted. Batteries, perfumes, chemicals, alcohol, food, plants and pharmaceuticals may require classification, permits, packaging and carrier approval.

Lawful controlled medicines or substances and live animals require prior legal, permit, carrier and handling confirmation and must not be assumed bookable.
